Description
African tribal art Lobi Head Altar from Burkina Faso.
Beautiful Lobi head Altar figure with wood patina of use. This Lobi head is supposed to contain the “Khele”, a power present in every human being and following the death of an individual or an animal it must be mastered in order not to bring harm. Valiant warriors and hunters associated themselves with the cult of Milkuur in order to “charge” their forces. Embodied by the head which was placed on the altar outside the houses, it formed a supernatural being supposed to protect them against any danger. Figure from the Gaoua region of Burkina faso.
We find the Lobi people in Burkina Faso, few in Ghana and in Northern of Ivory Coast.
